One of the principal Dodecanese islands (easternmost of the Greek islands) is Rhodes. The island was once home to one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World - the Colossus of Rhodes. This large statue once straddled the harbour but was shattered by an earthquake in 237 BC.
