Bastia - Toulon Ferries

Bastia is a serene Mediterranean town located on the northeastern coast of of Corsica. It has many narrow streets, engulfed by tall buildings with cute, painted shutters. The old port of Bastia, in the south of the town, is also a sailing harbour. Toulon is sheltered in Europe's largest and most beautiful bay, and is bordered by tall forested hills crowned with ancient forts. Although the city has been a powerful military port for centuries, its bay offers much more than the naval base. The adjacent coast features pretty creeks shaded by umbrella pines, as well as high cliffs, tiny fjords and beaches. There are even picturesque fishing harbours.

The naval base is home to many modern warships and submarines, as well as the impressive Charles-de-Gaulle nuclear aircraft carrier. Also of interest is the Musée National de la Marine (National Naval Museum), covering four centuries of French maritime history.
