The Shetlands have good road networks, while they are connected by ferry to Scandinavia and the UK.

The Shetlands roads are in good condition and driving is relatively stress-free. You will find directions to the port well signposted from the centre of town.

A minibus transfer service is available to and from Kirkwall to meet with evening arrivals and departures (tel: 0845 6000 449).

There are also scheduled bus services operating across the island, with John Leask & Sons (tel: +44 (0) 1595 693162) operating a regular service across the island.

Twenty-five miles south of Lerwick is Sumburgh with its airport. Here too is Sumburgh Head, complete with spectacular views south towards Fair Isle and north along South Mainland. The main airport is at the southern tip of mainland, complete with a wide range of scheduled services.

Ferries connect Lerwick with Aberdeen Scotland, as well as Kirkwall in the Orkney Islands, while summertime sailings are available to destinations in Scandinavia.

Once at the port, you will find facilities for both short and long-term parking.
