The port is connected by rail to the Harwich International station. There is also a fast boat-train service operated by Anglia Railways, running from London Liverpool Street. It is scheduled to coincide with ferry sailings, with alterations to schedules when bad weather or other adverse conditions affect sailings.

The ferryport is also linked by the 20 and 20A bus services, which run frequently from the port terminal.

Passenger ferries connect the port with the Hook of Holland, Cuxhaven in Germany and Esjberg in Denmark, while there are also freight connections to Gothenburg in Sweden and to Hamburg in Germany.

The port is a busy one, dealing with high volumes of vehicles and offering good car parking facilities, with both short and long-term parking rates available.
