Stena Line operates sailings between Gothenburg and Frederikshavn in Denmark, a route that is covered between seven and ten times a day in each direction by conventional as well as high-speed ferries. The crossing takes two hours on fast ferries and 3 hours and 45 minutes on conventional vessels. Passenger cars are accepted on all vessels, coaches and lorries on some sailings. There is also a Gothenburg-Kiel (Germany) passenger ferry service in both directions daily. The journey takes 13 hours and the conventional overnight ferries can take passenger cars and lorries.

DFDS Seaways offers a Gothenburg-Kristiansand-Newcastle (in the UK) sailing, which takes 26 .5 hours and departs twice a week. This service caters to passengers, vehicles and cargo.
