The Riga to Stockhom ferry route was launched soon after the establishment of Riga Sea Line on April 25, 2002. It was initially operated by the ferry Max Mols, which had been leased from a Danish joint-stock company Mols Linien. In October 2002, Riga Sea Line purchased the ferry Baltic Kritina, in order to provide a quicker and more comfortable journey for its passengers on the Riga-Stockholm route.
