Hellenic Mediterranean Lines

Hellenic Mediterranean Lines Ferries, also known as HML Ferries, connects Italy with the Greek mainland and a number of the Greek islands. The company was established in 1901 in Constantinople, Turkey, by two brothers from the Ionian island of Cefallonia. The company at this time was operating ships linking the Black Sea ports with Constantinople, Thessaloniki, Volos, Piraeus and other ports in the Adriatic Sea.

By 1905, after several mergers with smaller companies, HML Ferries moved its headquarters to Piraeus in Greece and began operating domestic Greek shipping services, as well as linking Greece with Europe and the Middle East. Today, the company boasts over 40 years of shipping service between Greece and Italy, having dropped the domestic Greek routes back in the 1970s.
