Bornholmstrafikken Ferries

BornholmsTrafikken was founded in 1866 as a privately-owned joint stock company, but was taken over by the Danish government in the early 1970s and remains state-owned today under the Danish Ministry of Transport. However, there are now moves to privatise the ferry operation to and from Bornholm, an island in the Baltic Sea.

In the meantime, the mission of BornholmsTrafikken, as stated in its Articles of Association, remains to provide transport for passengers, mail and goods to and from Bornholm. The company, in view of becoming privatised, has embarked on the 'Best Service' project, to improve the efficiency of the company both organisationally and financially, without sacrificing quality.

It wants to be able to offer the highest level of service of any ferry company in Northern Europe to its customers. One objective has been to streamline its employees and offer more competitive prices to its customers, both passengers and freight operators.

Service and Safety are of utmost importance to BornholmsTrafikken. To meet client needs, the company operates three service centers, located in Rønne, Copenhagen and Ystad. On the safety front, BornholmsTrafikken complies with Danish and international laws regarding safety on board its ships; it follows the International Safety Management (ISM) code and also operates its own Safety Management System (SMS). The ships are continuously upgraded in accordance with the international passenger safety convention Safety of Life At Sea (SOLAS).
