Norway ports
Norway boasts one of the world's most splendid countrysides. The country has scrub-covered islands, snow-crested peaks, and glacier-born fjords, encompassing a beautiful wilderness. A haven for nature lovers, Norway is an ideal place to experience the shimmering aurora borealis (northern lights) in the winter and the endless days of 'midnight sun' during the summer.
With only around half a million inhabitants, Norway's capital, Oslo, is a laid-back place. Out of the port of Oslo, two ferry operators provide direct links with Denmark and Germany: Color Line and DFDS Seaways. Norwegian ferry cruise operator, Color Line, operates a service to Kiel, in northern Germany, with three daily sailings (duration : 20 hours). Color Line also has daily sailings to Hirsthals in Denmark, with journey times of 12 hours. Danish ferry operator DFDS Seaways sails to Copenhagen in Denmark. Ships sail daily, calling en-route at Helsingborg, before arriving in Copenhagen 16 hours later. The company also has one daily sailing from Oslo to Helsingborg direct.

Stavanger is Norway's fourth largest city, located on the southwest coast. Fishing, shipbuilding and oil are the key industries here. Fjord Line service the Stavanger to Newcastle route, stopping en-route at other Norwegian ports of Bergen and Haugesund. The journey time is 27 hours. Sailings drop from three a week in the summer months (Friday, Sunday and Wednesday), to two crossings per week during the winter (Saturday and Wednesday). Passengers with cars should arrive no later than one hour before departure, and during the peak summer months no later than two hours prior to sailing time.
Kristiansand Euro-Port Norway is the only Norwegian port with ferry connections to both Sweden and England. DFDS Seaways offers the Newcastle-Kristiansand-Gothenburg (Sweden) route, which takes 26 hours and departs twice a week.
Color Line Ferries, Norway's largest ferry cruise operator, services the Kristiansand to Hirtshals route. Ferries depart twice daily and take five hours and 45 minutes.
Norway is a land of waterfalls and rapids, majestic mountains, glaciers, green islands, crystal lakes, pine and spruce forests, steep-sloped farmsteads, secluded valleys, craggy cliffs, peaceful fjords, and quaint fishing villages. |
